Heard about this novel through Facebook and I am so thrilled I found it! It's fast paced and an entirely new reading experience. The characters are lifelike and you just want to learn more about them and try to figure how they think and what their next blog post will share about them and the murders. The creativity and originality of this novel is not to be missed!
Started out getting this just to check out what it'd be like to read a book written in a blog format. Got completely hooked by Sea View Stew & had to read the entire thing (The Satin Strangler Blogs (Complete)). The book keeps you in suspense all the way through. Ended up really liking how the story unfolded through all of the different perspectives. Short blog posts make this a really quick read.
I was asked by Caputo to review his first draft, and I was immediately impressed and intrigued by the brave framework of the piece...an eerie crime novel composed entirely of blog entries. This sheds a new light on character development, and adds a "film noir" voyeurism to the piece in this age of information overload and diminished personal communication, the cold, impersonal blogger types on as the unending reality of evil takes to the streets to claim lives. The element of fetish and sex as the killer's lure confirms another timeless aspect of humanity, and spices up the tale. The posting dates of the blogs also allow Caputo to manipulate time to great effect, either moment by moment or by leaps. The bloggers are the cast, and entertain in the microcosm as well as in moving this gruesome tale along. To sum up, Caputo captures the essence of today's impersonal information overload amidst the stark, street-level reality of evil to deliver a crime tale for our times. Every fan of the crime genre (and future fan of the blog genre) must devour this book.
I read The Satin Strangler Blogs and couldn't put it down until I "turned" the last page! When I found out the first part can be purchased separately I thought I'd add my review here since I can't imagine not wanting to read the entire book The Satin Strangler Blogs (Complete). I wondered at times if this was "ripped from the headlines" it felt so real. I loved the Blog format with the story being moved forward by several different voices. The links on the web drew me in with expanded information. The twists kept coming right up until the end. This mystery thriller was well written - each blogger has their own voice and personality. The Satin Strangler Blogs is fast paced and engrossing. It left me wanting to find out what happens to Destiny! I'm hoping there'll be a sequel. It's a 'Must Read' on my recommendation list.
